Description

Short story published by Image Comics on the anthology Put The Book Back on the Shelf. All short stories of the book were based on the songs of Scottish band Belle & Sebastian. Colored by Marcus Penna, Dog on Wheels was my first published attempt to make comics without panels, using a brief sequence of spread pages to tell a story that shows the last seconds of a disastrous circus act, a frustrated attempt to throw an old cassette tape from one racing car to another without making it fall to the ground.

Originally inspired by a brief passage of the song Belle & Sebastian from 1997 Dog on Wheels EP  - Belle was ok but oh Sebastian... Went too far again... Crashed his car in the rain... - the story ended up being wrongly titled with the name of the record instead of the song. Also to my surprise, the first page, a circus poster showing the original title and the credits, was not published on the book. But I do confess that I enjoyed the outcome of it, it was unnusual to see the story beginning suddenly and without any introduction. In the end, it worked for me. The weirder, the better.

Dog on Wheels was also published in some illustration books and annuals such as Illustrators 49th, Semi-Permanent 2006 and Archive 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide 07-08. In 2007 the story also took part on the Society of Illustrators' exhibition in the Museum of American Illustration.
