In my opinion the tale Demônios*, from Brazilian writer Aluísio Azevedo, is one of the most bizarre stories of our national literature. I think it's the first Brazilian short story to have a close relation to the work of H.P. Lovecraft, written in times where the horror genre was beginning to take shape. By the weird beards of Cthulhu, I must say I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with it! Coincidentally at the same time I was working on Demônios for publisher Escrita Fina, I found out that a friend, comic book artist Guazzelli, was also working with the same title, adapting it to comics. In 2012, the FNLIJ - Fundação Nacional do Livro Infantil e Juvenil - awarded the book with the FNLIJ 2012 - Highly Commended Seal - Young Adults Category, at the 38th FNLIJ Awards Annual Selection. The FNLIJ is a private and non-profit organization and the Brazilian section of the IBBY - International Board on Books for Young People. * Demons |
